GAMERS TRAVEL HALFWAY AROUND WORLD JUST TO PLAY WESTWOOD STUDIOS UNIQUE COMPUTER GAMES

August 28th, 1996 - Some fans will do just about anything to play a Westwood Studios computer game, like drive non-stop from Los Angeles to Milwaukee (36 hours, thank you) just to play Red Alert, the latest installment of Westwoods award-winning Command & Conquer strategy-action series.

But thats a minor feat compared to the game-playing couple who flew in from Germany just to get first crack at Lands of Lore: Guardians of Destiny, the studios new fantasy role-playing CD-ROM game.

The games were two of the many Westwood Studios CD-ROM games on display at the annual GEN CON show in Milwaukee, billed as 'the largest game convention in the Western Hemisphere.'

Also available at the show was the companys Legends of Kyrandia tri-pack (a world of fantasy on 3 CD-ROMs) and the ever-popular Monopoly for the Internet CD-ROM game.

Eighty-thousand attendees had a chance to gain a sneak peek at the new Command & Conquer: Red Alert and Lands of Lore: Guardians of Destiny.

The shows security personnel found so many fans at the Westwood booth that extra crowd control was needed to keep the wide aisles clear. 'This autumn we will delight and surprise our C&C fans once again with Command & Conquer: Red Alert and I know our fantasy role-playing fans will be impressed and enthralled with Lands of Lore: Guardians of Destiny,' said Brett W. Sperry, president and co-founder of Westwood Studios.

Formed in 1985, Westwood Studios has consistently released popular titles including: the Eye of the Beholder Series, Dune II, the Kyrandia adventure trilogy, Lands of Lore and Monopoly for the Internet, each having sold over 250,000 units worldwide. Command & Conquer is perhaps the most popular strategy game of all time, having already achieved worldwide sales in excess of one million copies.
