THE COUNTDOWN TO ONE OF THIS YEARS EAGERLY ANTICIPATED TITLES HAS BEGUN!

Las Vegas, NV, September 19, 1996 - Command & Conquer has been heralded as one of the year's best selling titles, and with combined sales of over 1 million copies worldwide, gamers seem to agree. Thousands of people continue to challenge each other daily, with the war raging over phone lines and the Internet as all strive for supremacy over their peers. Now Westwood Studios is proud to announce the upcoming release of Command & Conquer: Red Alert, the next title in the breakaway line.

"This Autumn we hope to delight strategy gamers once again with the next installment, Command & Conquer: Red Alert. In this prequel to C&C, Red Alert will probe more deeply into the mystery of the C&C universe, while giving players exciting new strategies and game elements to further their conquests in solo, modem, and Internet play," said Brett W. Sperry, President and co-founder of Westwood Studios.

The story takes place many years before that of the first Command & Conquer. Peace had reigned for most of the 20th century. Until now. The mighty Soviet Empire has begun to "liberate" all of Europe. Cities fall and countries collapse before the overwhelming might of the Red Storm. The Allies are scrambling to meet the onslaught, but they have been caught by surprise. Will you help them turn the tide or complete Stalins reign of terror and finish them off?

Red Alert features a detailed, interweaving storyline with over 40 missions to play. Add to all of this the superb game play, 3D cinematics, and riveting soundtrack game players have come to expect from Westwood Studios, and the result is obvious - a game so addicting, so rich, and so real, you'll probably never sleep again!

New features for Command & Conquer: Red Alert include :

  • High Resolution Graphics. Red Alert is actually two games in one. A native Windows95 version with 640x480 resolution and a DOS version with 320x200 resolution.

  • New Units & Structures. Over 30 new game elements including: Thieves, Medics, Attack dogs, Spies, Land mines, Tesla Coils, Destroyers, Cruisers, MIGs, Paratroopers, and Submarines... to name just a few. We won't even hint at what the Chronosphere and Gap Generators do.

  • Improved unit control. Complete control over air, land, and sea. Formations control and waypoint plotting for those who want units to get to their destination in a certain way.

  • Enhanced AI. The computer is smarter than ever. Base construction and management are the smallest of the enhancements. New options also allow the player to set game difficulty.

  • Built-in H2H Internet Support. With fully integrated Internet support you can easily challenge opponents next door or halfway across the world.

  • Expanded Multiplay. Now challenge up to 6 players in IPX LAN mode. A new chat interface allows for longer messages and more information to be displayed.

  • Skirmish Mode. Want a little practice? Now you can take on one to five computer opponents simultaneously.

  • Terrain Editor. Build your own multiplayer maps and trade them with your friends.

  • Command & Conquer: Red Alert will be available late this Autumn in English, French, and German on CD-ROM.
