Common Question for Command & Conquer Macintosh
-
- Why can't I use AppleTalk to connect
via network?
In the case of C&C, the decision was made to use the MacIPX
standard so that the game would be network compatible with IBM PCs as
well as other Macs. We realize that IPX is not as easy to set up on the
Mac as AppleTalk. We should have a step by step description of the
process available soon.
|
- Help! The game asks me to swap the C&C disk
but doesn't eject it!
This is a known bug that we are working on. In the
meantime, if you start the game with the correct CD for the side you are
playing, you will not have this problem (#1 for GDI missions, #2 for Nod
missions).
|
- What extensions should I use/not use?
It is a good idea to
use as few extensions as possible. In particular, any RAM Doubler
software or extensions can cause problems. With C&C, the speed access
portion of Speed Doubler will cause lockups or stuttering in the movies.
For best results, cut your extensions down to the following: Display
Enabler, Apple CDrom (or cdrom toolkit), MacIPX, the Sound Manager, plus
whatever else is required to boot your particular machine.
|
- I'm having video problems in C&C.
It is known that certain video types found on some Macs
(such as the Radius video system) will cause C&C to lock up. This is also
common in Macs using PCI video cards. It is highly recommended that you
use the Standard Mac video system when running the game.
|
- Unimplimented Trap Error.
This error is caused by a conflict with
certain versions of the Draw Sprocket. When installing C&C you MUST use the
version of the Draw Sprocket found on the CD (1.1b1). If you already have
a newer version of Draw Sprocket on your machine that is needed for other
programs, copy the version from the C&C CD into the C&C Folder instead,
and the game should run fine without interfering with the other version.
|
- What are the cheat codes for Command & Conquer?
There are absolutely no cheat codes in any of our games.
|
- Connecting to PC based machines to play C&C.
When connecting to a PC version of Command & Conquer,
whether it be modem, LAN or Internet, a few extra steps may be required.
The Mac version will connect to the PC Gold version (for Windows 95) with
no special steps required. When playing against a DOS version of C&C, the
version of the DOS version is important. If the DOS user has version 1.07
to 1.19, he will either need to upgrade to the current 1.22 version, or
use the -o command to start the game (ask the DOS user to check his
readme file for information on the -o command). If the DOS user decides
to use the -o command, you will need to enable the "DOS Compatibility
mode" setting in your options.
|
- Selecting the Multiplayer option causes a crash.
In most cases, if you get a Type 11 Crash error in the Finder, it
is an indication that the MacIPX drivers/extensions are not installed
correctly. Reinstalling MacIPX should fix this problem.
|
- How do I install the Macintosh C&C patch?
- Download
the file(s) to the Desktop or a directory.
- Decode the .hqx file by using the binhex tool or by using Stuffit
Expander(tm) [Stuffit Expander is a common tool for Mac users].
- The decoded file is a folder named "Mac C&C Update" which contains a
"Read Me" file and Mac C&C v1.71.
- You must replace their old version of Mac C&C with this new
one. Throw away and EMPTY Trash of your old version. If you
fail to empty the trash and attempt to play an Internet game, Mac Wchat
will detect the old version (even if in the Trash) and prompt for an
update even though you have already updated.
|
- Where is Red Alert for the Macintosh?
At this time there has been no announcement as to a port of Red Alert to
the Mac. This does not mean that there will not be a Mac version, it
only means that we have not yet made a decision.

Common Question about Westwood Chat for the Macintosh
-
- I have trouble logging in or staying on WCHAT.
If you are using a version of Westwood Chat prior to 3.40, you may
experience problems such as garbled text, the "infinite hourglass", slow
refresh, etc. Be sure when logging onto WCHAT to allow the Auto-updates
to occur. These updates not only fix most of the problems with prior
versions of WCHAT for Mac, but also will transfer you to the current
server that the rest of the world is using.
|
- Westwood Chat and America Online.
Versions of WCHAT prior to 3.40 were not compatible with America Online.
As of this new version, AOL users can now use their Internet connection to
access Westwood Chat.
|
- Using WCHAT to play games against others.
Currently, Monopoly Mac will only connect automatically to other Mac users
of Monopoly, until the PC version can be updated. It is possible to connect
to a PC version of Monopoly manually in the following manner:
- Use WCHAT or another metheod of contact to find your opponents
If you are to be the host of the game, give your IP address to
the other players. If you are to connect to a host, get his
IP address.
- Make sure that you are still connected to your Internet provider,
then start a new game of Monopoly. When the game asks if this is
an Internet game, say NO. Put yourself in as player one; for player
two, choose a NETWORK game.
- If you want to host a game, click the HOST button and wait for
players to connect to you. If you are joining a host, click the
JOIN button, then type in the IP address of the host's machine.

Common Question about MONOPOLY CD-ROM for the Macintosh
-
- There's a problem with "GO!" in Monopoly.
There is a bug in the game that prevents $200 from being paid for landing on
GO, and in rare cases, landing on GO can actually cause a crash. We are
working on fixing this, but it seems to be related to the use of RAM and
Speed doubler programs. Be sure to disable such programs before
playing.
